New Releases – August 2011
At first glance there’s not a lot coming out this month, but some digging reveals a few titles to get us through the month.
…but not in the first week!
Fruit Ninja Kinect (XBLA Kinect)
A Kinect enabled port of an iPhone game looks to not only be the first Kinect enabled Live Arcade game but probably one of the best games on Kinect! Though that really isn’t saying much considering the sheer amount of horrifying garbage on that thing (and you thought the Wii was bad!). Basically this will be our first look at how well the Kinect handles basic sword slash detection. The downside? We’re paying $10 for a $1 game…and something that’s a mini-game in Start the Party on the Move.
A cheap looking side scrolling Ikaruga knock-off. Looks like it could be kinda fun though.
El Shaddai (PS3, 360)
This basic yet unusual game got pushed back…am I the only one who thinks it feels like a Nier clone?
No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise (PS3)
With the 360 release cancelled for the US and Move support tacked on, this release of No More Heroes adds a bunch of content and HD graphics. Too bad No More Heroes isn’t really THAT great of a game and much of the added content seems like it would spoil the experience for newcomers.
Street Fighter III: Third Strike (XBLA, PSN)
SF3 with online play comes to XBLA and PSN! That’s…about all that needs to be said. Shame it doesn’t have a drastically rebalanced option as this game needs it.
Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove (3DS)
Perhaps August is just the month of paying more for less. At first this looked like a really cute little music game, but then I found out it’s a port of a WiiWare game…that is being sold as a full priced boxed release. Will they add something to the game or are they honestly getting away with charging $40 for a $10 game? This is the kind of bullshit that’s killing 3DS sales, people! Yeesh! A shame too as I really want to play it. It looks right up my alley.
Can I just give an honorable mention here to GameLoft for actually selling Let’s Golf 3D as a $7 download. Between Dream Trigger 3D, Cave Story 3D, and Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove, they honestly could have gotten away with charging $40 for it if they wanted to. Thanks for not being dicks, guys.
