New Releases – February 2012
Wow, I made this list at the beginning of the month and here I am posting it now. There’s almost no point! Well…POSTING IT ANYWAY!
Rhythm Party (Kinect)
Konami tries again with a Kinect dancing game. However this time they try something that is both simpler and far more creative with a game that encourages freestyle dancing! To say I love it is an understatement.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (360, PS3)
Know what I love about Western RPGs? The freedom. Know what I hate about Western RPGs? The combat. Kingdoms of Amalur looks to fix that by being “Fable but better”.
Jak and Daxter Collection (PS3)
Jak & Daxter is my favorite 3D platformer. I love it’s open world and colorful aethetic. It’s successors were a mixed bag but they had good characters and story. Shame Jak X (a.k.a. The Greatest Racing Game Ever) is not included.
Rhythm Heaven Fever (Wii)
Imagine if Wario Ware was musical. That’s Rhythm Heaven.
Mario & Sonic at the London Olympic Games (3DS)
This mini-game collection looked promising up until it was revealed that you couldn’t use every character in every event. No Princess Daisy doing Judo? No Rhythmic Gymnastics with Shadow? No sale.
Tales of the Abyss (3DS)
The first good 3D Tales Of game gets a portable port! Nuff said!
Tekken 3D Prime Edition (3DS)
It’s Tekken 6 on the go…with amazing 3D but no content! Ah well, at least it comes with the hilarious movie! Shame the 3D in the 3DS port of the movie sucks though.
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend (360, PS3, Vita)
*sigh* You know, they were doing the DLC *right* with BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. Why did they have to screw that up now by making us pay $40 to get an extra character and some gameplay tweaks.
Asura’s Wrath (360, PS3)
This is an awesome movie! Oh, it’s not a GAME, but it is a fun watch!
Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen (Vita)
Imagine Tenchu meets Way of the Samurai by the makers of Tenchu 1. The original looked awesome but never hit the states. The sequel seems to lack any sort of custom character (I think the original had one) and that’s disappointing, but it does look like it may be a really good ninja game. If I had a Vita I’d get it even though I hate stealth games.
Grand Knights History (PSP)
Hey! Vanilla Ware’s custom character turn-based RPG *is8 coming to America! I think it’s download only though.
Dynasty Warriors: Next (Vita)
I like Dynasty Warriors.
Rhythm Thief (3DS)
Looks to be Elite Beat Agents meets Professor Layton…kinda.
SSX (360, PS3)
A much needed franchise reboot that, while it has excellent controls and solid gameplay, is not crazy enough. Character designs and courses are incredibly bland. EA misses the point once again.
Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk II (PS3)
While the original JRPG about the console wars was a very rough game, it did find love and quickly rose in price. The sequel stars the portables and looks like it may be a much needed improvement with a new battle system and hopefully a smoother framerate! It’s selling out already though so brace yourself!
